ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's soccer team had a firm grasp on a non-conference win over Alvernia on Saturday at Ira R. Herr Field, but the Golden Wolves battled over the final 30 minutes to grab two goals as the teams settled for a 2-2 draw. Pedro Guizardi scored his team-leading third goal while AJ Sasso scored the first of his career in the game.

A poor clearance from the Alvernia goalkeeper gave the Blue Jays an early chance as Hudson Peck's touch bounced off a defender and to the feet of Guizardi. The senior took a few dribbles toward goal and ripped a shot low left side to make it 1-0 in the ninth minute.

That lead held up through the remainder of the first half as the Jays went into the break ahead by a goal and plus-one in the shots department, 8-7.

Alvernia responded in the second half by outshooting Etown 14-4. Though the first goal of the second half belonged to EC. Jude Ashley put Guizardi in on goal. He touched went off the goalie and bounced to the middle of the six where Sasso had followed up the play and pounced on the loose ball for the first of his Blue Jay career to make it 2-0 in the 62nd minute.

The Golden Wolves came right back to halve their deficit as a foul called in the box led to Connor Kraycik's penalty kick goal just 30 seconds later.

Then, with a little over 10 minutes remaining, Ryan Cogill was able to beat a few defenders and get a left-footed shot from out top to curl into the right side to tie the game at 2-2 in the 78th minute.

Pedro Miranda made several saves in the last portion of the contest to keep Elizabethtown level with Alvernia as the game ended two goals apiece.

The Blue Jays will play at Lebanon Valley on Wednesday, September 25, at 4 p.m.
