GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- Elizabethtown College women's soccer team at Gettysburg
There were only four shots total in the first half between Elizabethtown and Gettysburg, but two of those ended up as goals, one for each side.
Maddie McWhinney struck first for the Blue Jays in the 30th minute.
Sky Shinnen's cross from the right side was deflected on its way in and picked up by
Ava Whisten along the Bullets' touchline. With a defender on her back, Whisten was able to play the ball into the middle, where McWhinney was waiting at the six yard box to first-time the ball into the goal to make it 1-0.
Gettysburg was level within two minutes to make it a 1-1 game. The teams went into the half still tied and the Bullets outshooting Etown, 3-1.
The hosts took the lead early in the second half, getting a goal in the 50th minute to go ahead 2-1.
Etown tried to answer in the 68th minute with the first corner kick of the game.
Skylar Mumford was able to direct a header toward goal, but Alex Jurow was able to make a comfortable save to keep the scoreline the same for her team.
Gettysburg was able to make that score hold as they downed the Jays by a 2-1 final.
Elizabethtown will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 1 p.m. before their game against Stevenson.
