ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College softball team got a complete game effort out of senior
Cierra Kunkle in game one as the Blue Jays took their home opener 4-3 before the Eagles earned the split by taking game two in five innings.
Brooke Huczko extended her hit streak to 12 straight games and
Jenna Davis connected on her first career home run.
Game 1: Elizabethtown 4, Juniata 3
The Blue Jays trailed 1-0 after the top half of the first, but doubled that in their home half of the inning.
Kristen Aydelotte sent a two-run double to right center scoring Huczko and
Hannah Long. Huczko led off with a double and moved up to third on Long's bunt single before both runners scored on Aydelotte's double.
Elizabethtown (4-8, 1-1 Landmark) got another pair of runs on a defensive miscue by the Eagles that allowed two runners to score.
Maddie Reever and
Skye Zolomij made it 4-1 for the Jays in the third.
Juniata (6-10, 1-1 Landmark) got within one late, but Kunkle stranded a runner at second with a pop out and fly out to end it.
Game 2: Juniata 12, Elizabethtown 3 (F/5)
The Eagles came roaring back to start the second game, putting up six runs in the first.
EC did answer in the next inning as Davis lifted a three-run shot over the left field fence, the first of her career, to make it 6-3.
That's all the Jays would get as Rylea Lynch came in to shut down Etown over the final three innings while her offense posted runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to end things early.
Huczko had two hits in each game and extended her season-long hit streak to 12 games. Long and Zolomij also had a pair of hits in game one.
Elizabethtown will play at Penn State Harrisburg on Monday, March 25, at 3 and 5 p.m.
