ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College wrestling team celebrated their seniors Friday night prior to the night's dual against Messiah and all five seniors picked up wins against the Falcons as the Blue Jays prevailed, 25-9.
Ethan Liptzin, one of four seniors in the starting lineup for the dual, began the evening with a 17-0 tech fall in the first period to put Etown ahead 5-0 right away.
Scotty Reagan won by decision at 141, though Messiah had the lead about 157, taking three of the first five weight classes, all by decisions. They led 9-8 heading into 165.
Brian Schneider, one of two graduate students back for one final season, helped get the Blue Jays back in front. He earned a 5-0 decision over familiar foe, Zach Needles.
It was all Elizabethtown at that point as they won the final five bouts, including Schneider's.
Ganon Smith and
Will Davis each won via decision at 174 and 184, respectively.
Senior
Trai Roland dominated Sawyer Dereszynski at 197 for an 11-2 major decision. EC was up 21-9 at that point. Fellow senior
Dylan Waller closed out the night with a second consecutive major for the Jays, beating Hayden Benner 10-2, making it 25-9 at the end.
In exhibition action following the match, senior
Kurt Driscoll got the pinfall in 1:53 to close out a successful night for Elizabethtown, who improved to 9-2 on the season.
The Blue Jays will be on the road for their final dual match of the season. They'll face Wilkes on Sunday, February 18, at 12 p.m.
