Wrestling whips Wilkes in dual finale

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College wrestling team took it to Wilkes in their dual finale on Sunday, 30-10. The Blue Jays won seven of the 10 bouts with four of them registering bonus points for Etown.

Ethan Liptzin dominated 125 with an 8-1 decision to give Elizabethtown an early 3-0 lead. Braden Schuyler followed with a higher scoring affair, earning a 17-11 decision at 133.

Wilkes got four back with a major decision at 141, but Shane Strausser got those points back plus a few with a fall at 2:09 to take 149 and put the Jays ahead 12-4.

A decision at 157 for the Colonels cut the deficit to 12-7, but those points came right back as Brian Schneider recorded Etown's second fall of the match at 165. It only took the graduate student 1:08 to get the pinfall victory.

Ganon Smith won by decision at 174 and Will Davis took 184 handily, 13-3, for the major.

Wilkes added three more for a decision at 197, but that only made it 25-10.

Dylan Waller, as he has done all season, finished off the dual with a tech fall victory at 285 as Elizabethtown tripled up the Colonels, 30-10.

Next up for the wrestling team is the MidEast Futures Tournament being held at the College of New Jersey on Sunday, Feb. 25.
