Wrestling takes third at Blue Jay Classic

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Junior Ganon Smith won the 184 pound title for the Elizabethtown College wrestling team at the Blue Jay Classic hosted at the Bowers Center on Saturday. The Blue Jays took third as a team with 131 points.

Smith added to his team-best pinfall total. Coming into the tournament with nine on the season, the junior won via pin in 2:09 in his opening match. Then, in the 184 quarters, won by fall again in 4:36. Smith advanced to the first-place match with his fastest win by pinfall this season, 50 seconds. Smith then won via injury default to take home his title.

Will Davis squared off with a familiar foe in the 197 pound championship match in Wilkes' Cameron Butka. Davis used a pair of tech falls and a pinfall victory to advance to the 197 final, where Butka was able to edge the senior by decision, 4-3.

David Panone bounced back after a semis loss to earn third place with a tech fall, 18-3. Gavin Fehr tied his best tournament finish this season with a third place for the Blue Jays at 165, winning via major decision, 10-1. Ksawery Niewadomy also took third for Etown. He pinned Hopkins' Jake Pomykata at 1:21, his second consecutive top three tournament finish.

Justice Hockenberry was fifth at 165, Corey Cope took sixth at 133, and Gavin Wagner placed eighth at 197.

The Blue Jays will travel to Gettysburg for their first dual match of 2025 on Friday, January 3, at 7 p.m.
