LOCK HAVEN, PA. -- Kelty Oaster added a few more accolades to her already stellar running resume for the Elizabethtown College women's cross country team. Oaster placed top-10 at the NCAA Div. III Mid-Atlantic Regional and the Blue Jays were 10th as a team with 263 points.
Oaster, a three-time all-region performer for Elizabethtown coming into the season, ran her fastest 6k time of the season on Saturday at Lock Haven. After the first 1.9k of the race, Oaster never dipped below 22nd in the field. Then, with about 1,000 meters left in her race and sitting in 17th, Oaster surged to the finish and took 10th overall in 21:37.6. She becomes only the third-ever four-time all-region performer in women's program history and gave Etown an all-region runner for the 20th consecutive year.
While Oaster ran a season-best,
Keely Fitzgerald and
Gwen Young ran personal best times for the Jays. Fitzgerald and Young, both All-Landmark Conference performers two weeks ago, took 54th and 56th, respectively. Fitzgerald ran a sub-23 minute 6k for the first time, finishing in 22:59.1. Young registered a 23:02.0 for EC.
Maureen Bosak was 65th in 23:16.2 and
Isabell Anderson, 99th a year ago, also ran a personal best 6k to take 82nd in 23:52.3.
Oaster will compete at the NCAA Div. III Championships for the second straight year. This year's championship takes place in Terre Haute, Ind. next weekend.
