WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's soccer team got another three points as the Blue Jays' defense did its job on Saturday at Wilkes in a 1-0 win over the Colonels.
The Blue Jays had a distinct advantage in shot attempts in the game with a 25-2 edge over the host Colonels. Etown limited Wilkes to one shot in each half and only one on goal that
Pedro Miranda saved in the first 45 minutes.
While the Jays had the better of the offensive stats, it wasn't correlating to goals as the visitors tried to crack the scoresheet, but were unable to do so in the first half.
It was finally off the foot of
Pedro Vinent in the 76th minute that Elizabethtown was able to capitalize. The goal came after a slew of shots were blocked.
Thomas Smith had the first attempt, followed by
AJ Sasso, then
Jayden Morris, neither of the three were on frame, but it was Vinent's that found its way into the back of the net to put EC ahead.
Wilkes' only shot of the second half came at the 57-minute mark and was wide of the mark. The Blue Jays didn't allow another one the remainder of the half as they finished off the shutout.
Elizabethtown will play at Moravian on Wednesday, October 23, at 7 p.m.
