OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team played it its first draw of the season on Saturday at Stevenson. The Blue Jays and Mustangs each scored once in the game and that was all through 90 minutes for either side.
Bailey Groff and
Marissa Vandernick each had two first-half shots for Elizabethtown (1-3-1), tied for the team lead through 45 minutes. Both of Groff's were on frame, including her goal in the 29th minute from abotu 30 yards out. The Blue Jays had the better of the attacking play in the first half and after a free kick was earned by Etown, Groff made the Mustangs pay, driving a shot to the upper right corner with no chance for the keeper to make it 1-0 in favor of the Jays.
Stevenson (2-1-3) would get the goal back nearly 11 minutes later on a looping shot from outside the box that found the far corner off the foot of Ericka Kitzinger.
The teams went into the half tied 1-1.
Etown had chances in the second half but were just unable to finish off the opportunities as Courtney Wysokowski was equal to the task in goal for the Mustangs.
Olivia Myer put a shot on frame in the 78th minute and
Ava Whisten had consecutive chances in the 87th and 89th minutes. Wysokowski made stops on all three attempts to help preserve the draw.
Adrienne McGallicher had two saves in goal for the Blue Jays.
The women's soccer team will play at Lancaster Bible on Tuesday, September 19, at 7 p.m.
