SPARKS, Md. -- Senior
Riley Langen reworked several record books this season for the Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team. Langen added another item to his impressive 2023 resume on Thursday as he was named a USA Lacrosse Magazine All-America Honorable Mention for the Blue Jays.
Langen was the driving force behind one of Elizabethtown's top-performing offenses in program history. The senior blew past the single-season points and assists records. The points record, 73, had stood since 2009 and Langen beat it by over 30 points, finishing his year with 104 (37g, 67a). The assists record, set only a season ago by his former teammate
Nick Cost '22 at 48, was no match for Langen's distribution this season. Langen's total of 67 was tops on the team and in the conference. He also remains third in NCAA Div. III in assists per game (3.94).
In only two seasons with the Blue Jays, Langen shot up the career records list where he'll finish third all-time in points at 169 (69g, 100a). Langen is only the third player all-time to record at least 100 assists, joining Cost and Ira R. Herr Athletic Hall of Fame member Aaron Weber '10.
While he punished the Etown record books, he also did so at the conference level. His seven assists against Susquehanna in the Landmark semifinal was a Landmark Tournament game record and his eight points that night (1g, 7a) tied a single-game tourney record. He finished the tournament with eight assists in all, which is also a Landmark record. He totaled 12 points (4g, 8a) to tie him for the tournament record with Goucher's Matt Lynch (2012).
His 11 points at Goucher during the season was the Landmark single-game record, though he was joined by teammate
Ben O'Connor a few games later at Juniata. The point total was also a program single-game record.
Langen's 4.83 career points per game in a Blue Jays' uniform (169 points/35 games) are a new Landmark career record as are his 2.86 assists per game. He'd be the only player in conference history to average over two assists per contest. His 100 career assists put him fourth in Landmark history and just one of four players with at least 100 assists in his career.
Not only were his 104 points this season a school record, but also a Landmark record and the only player to ever go for at least 100 in a single-season. His 6.12 points per game in 2023 put him seventh in Division III and tops in the Landmark.
