Softball celebrates Senior Day in season finale against Hood

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Hood got the better of the Elizabethtown College softball team on Monday to close out the season for the Blue Jays. Prior to game one, Etown celebrated its four seniors, Grace Hussey, Gillian Toomey, Tori Caputo, and Megan Thomas, and two graduate students, Paige Phillips and Ashley Mistichelli, for their hard work and dedication throughout their careers.

Game 1: Hood 6, Elizabethtown 2
The Blue Jays managed eight hits, but scattered them over seven innings. Hood led 1-0 right away after a solo home run for the Blazers in the top of the first.

They scored four runs in the third to push the lead to 5-0 and added another in the fourth to make it 6-0.

Emily Polimeni singled through the left side with the bases loaded to bring in two runs as Phillips and Brooke Huczko scored on the play.

The Blazers' starter Rebecca Gottleib did not allow another run as they took game one, 6-2. Huczko, Phillips, and Polimeni each had two hits apiece. Mistichelli and Maddie Reever also had one hit in the first game.

Game 2: Hood 14, Elizabethtown 0 (F/5)
Hood scored in four of the five innings, including five in the top half of the first to jump ahead 5-0 quickly on the Jays. Rachel Benden held Etown to just four hits.

The Blazers led 8-0 after three and tacked on four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth.

The seniors and grad students were all on the field for Elizabethtown to finish out their day, though not the ending they would have wanted.

Hood took game two by a final of 14-0.
