Women's track & field opens outdoor season at Jim Taylor Invite

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's track & field team opened their outdoor season this past weekend at the Jim Taylor Invitational hosted by Susquehanna University.

Melissa Fitzgibbon had the Blue Jays' best performance of the weekend as she was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Fitzgibbon ran 12:18.73 in the event for Elizabethtown.

Laura Cardona took fifth in the 100 meter hurdles in 16.94. The 4x100-meter relay of Melissa Patton, Lucy Stern, Maddy Eisenhart, and Trinity Faupel finished third. A pair of 4x400s ran for the Jays and placed eighth and tenth, respectively.

DaniRae Renno had the top finish for the field athletes, hitting 35.53m in the discus to take fourth. Trinity Soto was sixth at 33.48m. A day earlier, Soto set a new personal best in the hammer throw at 39.63m to move from seventh to fifth on the team's all-time list.

Jocelynn Itterly cleared 1.52m in the high jump to take fifth and Erin Miller's mark of 36.43m in the javelin was the sixth-best throw in the competition.

The Blue Jays will take part in next weekend's Millersville Metrics meet on Saturday, April 1, at 9:30 a.m.
