Wrestling drops dual match at #17 Alvernia

READING, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College wrestling team was looking for a little redemption against #17 Alvernia after dropping a dual match to the Golden Wolves a few weeks back at the Virginia Duals. The Golden Wolves got the better of the Blue Jays on Saturday night, winning the dual, 32-10.

It was all Alvernia through the first five weight classes as they built up a 14-0 lead going into 157.

Dorian Gonzalez nearly halved the deficit for Elizabethtown (9-6). Just as the first period was ending, Gonzalez was able to pin Robert Lawlor, a nationally-ranked contender via D3wrestle.com. It was the juniors sixth pinfall victory of the season and his 19th overall in 2022-23. Etown trailed 14-6 at that point.

Will Davis was able to notch a major decision at 197, his first match bumped up a weight class for the Blue Jays. He blanked Zachary Scheffler 10-0, his third win by major decision of the season to make it 26-10 with one match left.

The Golden Wolves picked up a fall to end the night with the win, 32-10.

Elizabethtown will wrestle at Messiah on Friday, February 10, at 7 p.m.
