Wrestling dominates Shippensburg in dual match opener

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College wrestling team won in a variety of ways Wednesday night at Shippensburg in the opening dual match for both teams. Etown prevailed in eight of the 10 weight classes and took home a resounding 39-7 win over the Raiders.

The Blue Jays earned an easy 12 team points with forfeits at 125 for Ethan Liptzin and 157 for Gavin Fehr.

Up 6-4 after 133, Scotty Reagan owned the 141-pound bout. He added a point of riding time for a 15-3 major decision to pad Elizabethtown's (1-0) lead to 10-4.

149 only lasted a little bit into the second period after Shane Strausser recorded the first fall of the evening, one of two falls for the Jays. Strausser's pinfall came at 3:53 as the team points began adding up for Etown. Fehr's forfeit win pushed it from 16-4 to 22-4 as EC took control of the match.

Shippensburg (0-1) scored its seven points between 133 (major) and 165 (decision), but that's all Elizabethtown would allow.

Brian Schneider earned a first-period fall at 2:11, the second of the night for the Jays. Then, Will Davis and Trai Roland won by decision, each, at 184 and 197, respectively.

Dylan Waller piled up the takedowns in the third period at 285 and notched a 20-4 tech fall victory to cap off the evening for Etown.

The wrestling team will take part in the Racich Rumble on Saturday, November 11, at Ursinus.
