Six place as wrestling finishes 5th at Racich Rumble

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College wrestling team had six wrestlers place on Saturday at the Racich Rumble hosted by Ursinus College. The Blue Jays finished five out of 14 teams with 103 points. Ethan Liptzin and Brian Schneider were the top finishers for Etown, each taking second in their weight classes.

Liptzin had a bye to open the 125 bracket before taking down Robert Philpot of Alvernia in his first match with a 17-2 tech fall. His 5-1 decision over WPI's Tanner Thatcher put him into a semifinal showdown with Ursinus' Michael Adams. The senior would have no issue getting into the 125 first-place match, taking down Adams with a 10-0 major decision. Liptzin would finish runner-up to NYU's Benny Bautista.

Schneider went 4-0 through the semifinals until a matchup with top-ranked 165-pounder Matt Lackman of Alvernia. Lackman would get the major decision to take the title with Schneider earning runner-up honors. Schneider began his day with a fall in 28 seconds over Alex Ballantyne of King's (Pa.). The graduate student faced Alvernia's Ryan Lepore in the round of 16 and shut out his Golden Wolves' opponent with an impressive 18-0 tech fall. He met Hopkins' Jake Hoffman in the quarters and advanced to the semifinals with an 8-3 decision. He then took down the second-seeded Chance Babb in the semis with his second tech fall of the day, 17-2.

Braden Schuyler and Deven Jackson both won their first three matches at 133, but losses in their semifinal matches put them on a collision course for a matchup in the third-place match. Schuyler would outdo his sophomore teammate with a 7-4 decision to take third while Jackson was fourth.

Dylan Waller kicked off the 285 bracket with a 17-2 tech fall over WPI's Trevor Bowen. In the quarterfinals, he pinned Trinity's Timothy Glynn in 53 seconds to move on to the semis. The senior dropped a 4-1 decision to place him into the third-place match, where he handled Washington & Lee's John Sedovy by major decision, 14-3.

Will Davis won his first two matches by fall, in 4:21 in the round of 32 and 2:05 in the round of 16 before a quarterfinal setback put him into the consolation side. He won twice more, both by tech fall, to advance to the fifth-place match where he'd take fifth without having to wrestle, winning via no contest.

Elizabethtown will jump back into dual action as they head to Scranton on Friday, November 17, at 7 p.m.
