Blue Jays Open Season with Two Wins over Immaculata, Goucher

IMMACULATA, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown men's swim team opened up their season in a tri-meet at Immaculata with Goucher. The Blue Jays defeated Immaculata, 213.50-42.50 and Goucher, 230-13. 

Etown claimed a total of 13 first place finishes. 

In the first event of the evening, the team of Leif Hoffman, Connor Oswald, Austin Smith, and AJ West claimed first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:43.89. Hoffman and Joshua McQueen took the top two spots in the 1000 freestyle. Three Blue Jays took the top three spots in the 50 backstroke with Liam Quick leading the way clocking in at 30.28. Elizabethtown again took the top three spots in the following evening. Connor Oswald finished first in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 28.28 while Garren McKenzie, and Nicholas Iraca followed. 

A. Smith claimed first in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall at 55.91 while McQueen finished third. In the 50 freestyle, West and Dylan Fitzgerald finished in the top two spots with times of 23.40 and 24.11, respectively. In the 100 freestyle, A. Smith (53.07) finished first and McKenzie tied with a Mighty Mac coming in with a time of 55.87. In the 100 breaststoke, Alex Waskiewicz came in with a time of 1:03.33 and McKenzie finished second with a time of 1:09.82. 

In the 500 freestyle, Hoffman, McQueen, and Robert Midura finished first through third, respectively. Waskiewicz clocked in with a time of 2:12.59 in the 200 IM to finish first. In the final event of the evening, the quartet of Oswald, Hunter Kuffa, A. Smith, and Waskiewicz finished first with a time of 1:36.83.
