BETHLEHEM, Pa.—In a hard fought back and forth defensive battle the Elizabethtown field hockey team fell short, 2-1 in double overtime at Moravian University, Saturday in the Landmark Conference first round of playoffs.
Moravian started off the game with strong possession as they fired off five shots in the first quarter. Elizabethtown was awarded their first of only two penalty corners in the game followed by a shot from
Chloe Smith that went wide. In the second quarter, the Greyhounds were able to get on the board in the 19
th minute. Greyhound, Jenna Segrave fired from the arch for Sydney Anderson to tip it into the goal. Moravian remained dominate in the quarter tallying eight shots.
Moravian did not allow an Etown shot in the second or third quarters as much of the game was played at midfield in the third. Elizabethtown was quick to start the fourth quarter as
Megan Meyer took a long pass from outside of the arch to
Hannah Long who tipped it into the goal. The Blue Jays tallied the equalizer in the 50
th minute. In the fourth quarter, Elizabethtown was able to outshoot Moravian, 4-3.
As if one overtime wasn't enough to decide a game-winner between Elizabethtown and Moravian the two teams forced a second overtime. In a defensive game, Moravian held the Blue Jays to a single shot in the first overtime period. Four minutes into the second overtime, Moravians Onalee Long assisted Anderson as she shot the ball past
Angelina Giglio-Tos into the bottom right corner.
Giglio-Tos made ten saves in goal for the Blue Jays.
Elizabethtown's season comes to a close as they end with a 7-9 record overall and a 4-5 record in Landmark Conference play.
