ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Junior
Dylan Waller was the lone weight class champion for the Elizabethtown College wrestling team at Saturday's Ken Ober Memorial Tournament held at the Bowers Center. In total, nine Blue Jays placed at the tournament as Etown finished third out of 10 teams with 107 points.
Waller coasted through his first two matches, one of which was a medical forfeit followed by a 12-2 major decision in his favor. He managed a 3-1 sudden victory over Brock Flynn of Delaware Valley to get into the first place match at 285. There, he pinned Austin Williams of Delaware Valley, a D3Wrestle Honorable Mention, in 2:53 to win the title.
Kurt Driscoll beat Trevor Manley of Washington & Jefferson in the fifth-place match with a 3-2 decision.
Shane Strausser was the runner-up at 149 for the Blue Jays as was
Ganon Smith at 174.
Will Davis earned an 8-6 decision in the third-place match at 184.
A number of Etown wrestlers finished fourth on the day in their weight classes. They included
Ethan Liptzin at 125,
Zach Rupp at 141, and
Caden Droege at 174.
Scotty Reagan took sixth at 133.
The wrestling team will have the week to prepare for a match at Alvernia next Saturday, February 4, at 7 p.m.
