Men's Swimming Drops Close Meet at Penn St.-Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown men's swim team closed out the regular season with a close loss at Penn St.-Altoona. The meet was decided by 0.03 seconds on the first relay of the day as the Blue Jays took second. Etown fell, 135-124. 

Leif Hoffman started strong in the 1000 freestyle touching the wall at 10:16.95 while Robert Midura finished third with a time of 11:50.69. In the 200 freestyle, Andrew Hoch (1:57.69) finished third and Zain Wegman (2:04.66) finished fourth. In the 100 backstroke, Dylan Fitzgerald, Franky Swain, and Liam Quick finished third-fifth, respectively. Connor Oswald took the top spot in the 100 breaststroke clocking in at 1:01.52. 

In the 200 butterfly, AJ West claimed first coming in with a time of 2:07.10 while Joshua McQueen finished third with a time of 2:09.63. In the 50 freestyle, Austin Smith finished second with a time of 23.11 and Hoch took fourth touching the wall at 24.07. West finished second while Nicholas Carter finished behind him in third in the 100 freestyle. In the 200 backstroke, Hoffman finished second with a time of 2:02.53 and Fitzgerald finished fourth. The Blue Jays finished second-fourth in the 200 breaststroke with Alex Waskiewicz leading.

Hoffman added another first place on the day as he touched the wall at 5:00.36 in the 500 freestyle. In the 100 butterfly, West finished first with a time of 54.56 while Smith finished second coming in with a time of 55.32. Waskiewicz finished third in the 200 IM clocking in at 2:12.72. 

Elizabethtown takes a break and will return February 17-19 for the Landmark Conference Championship at Germantown Indoor Swim Center.
