Wrestling shuts out Scranton on Senior Day

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College wrestling team posted its first dual shutout since 2016 on Saturday against Scranton on Senior Day at the Bowers Center Fieldhouse. All four seniors won their matches and the Blue Jays went 10-for-10 in the match to take the victory over the Royals, 40-0.

Deven Jackson got things started with a 5-2 decision at 125 to put Elizabethtown ahead 3-0 right away. Scotty Reagan took care of Michael Garcia at 133 with a 13-3 major decision.

Zach Rupp recorded his sixth fall of the season at 141 in 2:16 over Shkeb Nadir as Etown went up 13-0. Fellow senior Shane Strausser earned a major decision, 8-0, over Jackson Ratcliffe at 149.

Dorian Gonzalez made it two consecutive major decision victories as he won handily over Daniel Kosinski 17-9.

Brian Schneider (165) and Ganon Smith (174) each won by decision to add three team points apiece to the Blue Jays' total.

Will Davis got a late pin over Ryan Bihasa-Lenahan in the 184 weight class, the second pinfall victory of the day for Elizabethtown.

Tyler Phenegar took the win at 197 with a 5-1 decision over Jose Falcon. Dylan Waller ended the day with a 15-5 major decision to put the final score at 40-0.

The Blue Jays pitched their first dual shutout since blanking Penn College, 54-0, on Nov. 20, 2016 at the Lycoming Quad Meet.

The wrestlers will have the week off before hosting the Ken Ober Memorial Tournament at the Bowers Center next Saturday, January 28, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
