GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College wrestling team improved to 6-3 on the season with a dual win at Gettysburg on Wednesday. The Blue Jays edged the Bullets by a point, 20-19.
It was 7-0 in favor of Gettysburg early, but wins in six straight weight classes pushed the Blue Jays in front, starting with back-to-back riding time decisions for
Zach Rupp and
Shane Strausser. Rupp beat Jake Stein 6-5 with riding time while Strausser clipped Eric Mougalian 5-4. The wins got Etown with a point at 7-6.
Dorian Gonzalez dominated at 157 and earned a major decision, 17-4, to put Elizabethtown in front.
Brian Schneider and
Ganon Smith followed with decisions.
Will Davis beat Justin Rhyne at 184, 13-4, for the Jays' second major decision of the evening. With only two bouts remaining, EC led 20-7.
The Bullets were able to close the gap with a forfeit win at 197 and a pinfall in the heavyweight battle, but were still a point short.
Elizabethtown will head down to the Virginia Duals this weekend, beginning on Friday, January 13, with two duals against Davis & Elkins and Averett.
