ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- In a game filled with plenty of goals, it was Stockton that registered four of the six to take a 4-2 win back home over the Elizabethtown College field hockey team.
Charlize Bobbyn recorded the first goal of her career in the game and
Rachel Murphy made eight saves for the Blue Jays.
While the offense had yet to get going in the first quarter, Elizabethtown (3-3) remained resolute defensively as the teams played to a scoreless first period.
Stockton (4-2) did break through a few minutes into the second as Alexandria Palumbo dribbled into the circle and fired a backhanded shot in the left of the cage to make it 1-0. Then, right before halftime, Elizabeth Rafferty made it 2-0 with a tap in at the right post off an Ospreys' penalty corner.
In the third quarter,
Chloe Smith played
Grace Hardy into the lead with a perfect lead pass. The forward maneuvered around the goalie and smacked it into the open cage to cut the deficit to 2-1 just over five minutes into the third.
The Ospreys responded a few minutes later as Madison Maguire stuck with it and scored after her initial shot was blocked. That gave Stockton its two-goal lead back.
Etown didn't go away as Bobbyn pounced on a loose ball in front of goal and poked the ball through the diving goalie for her first career score. Once again, the Jays were within a goal.
But, once again, Stockton answered. Jenna Fiorito converted a penalty stroke to bring back the visitor's two-goal lead.Â
Murphy made several outstanding saves that kept Elizabethtown in the game, sprawling at the left post in the second quarter to deny a goal scoring opportunity.
The field hockey team will remain at home as they host Eastern on Wednesday, September 21, at 4:30 p.m.
