Men's cross country finishes 5th at Main Line Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's cross country team placed fifth out of eight teams at the Main Line Invitational on Friday, hosted by Haverford College. Nick Garrett was the Blue Jays' top finisher in the race.

Elizabethtown faced a larger field and stiffer competition than their alumni counterparts presented last weekend with the likes of host Haverford and nearby Swarthmore. Added in were a pair of Division I programs in Penn and Villanova, just down the road.

Garrett finished 35th for Etown, but the first to cross for the Jays. Garrett completed the 6.4k course in under 21 minutes at 20:55.7. Daniel Myers was close behind, in 37th, at 21:03.3.

Max Oswald was next, running 21:12.1. Brandon Baxter and Christian Gingrich made sure all five Blue Jays were inside the top 50 runners. Baxter finished in 21:15.9 while Gingrich ran 21:17.4, making the spread between Garrett and Gingrich just 22 seconds.

Etown finished with 144 points to take fifth. Villanova had a meet-low 20 points to place first.

The Blue Jays will have next weekend off before competing at Lehigh's Paul Short Run on Friday, September 30.
