Women's track & field sweeps, Schaaf named Track Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. -- The Elizabethtown College track & field teams took three of the four weekly Athlete of the Week awards as the women's team swept and Christian Schaaf was named the Men's Track Athlete of the Week. Marissa Lapinsky and Erin Miller were the honorees for the women's side.

Schaaf competed for Elizabethtown on Thursday night at the 126th Penn Relays. The senior was entered in the Men's 5000m Championship race, a field littered with Division I talent. Schaaf held his own in his section, finishing third in 14:14.38 to shatter his own school record by 10 seconds. The time is the 11th-fastest in Division III currently and by far the best in the Landmark Conference by 41 seconds.

On Saturday at the Blue Jay Tune Up, Lapinsky ran a new personal best in the 800m to win the event. The senior turned in a 2:15.12, the fastest time run in the women's event this outdoor season in the Landmark. Lapinsky's time also moves her from sixth to third all-time and is 32nd in Division III currently. It was the second time in April that Lapinsky won the 800m (Messiah Invitational).

Miller was also an event winner for Etown on Saturday. The sophomore launched her javelin 42.25m (138'7"), nearly a three-meter personal best, to best the competition. She improved her fourth-place standing on the school's all-time list and ranks 11th in Division III currently. The toss is also the top throw in the Landmark Conference for the defending javelin champion. Like Lapinsky, Miller won the jav for the second time in the month of April.
