GENEVA, Ohio -- Sophomore
Erin Miller was the first to compete at the 2022 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the Elizabethtown College track & field team. Miller competed in Thursday afternoon's javelin competition and finished 11th.
Miller, who was in the first flight Thursday, was in seventh after the first round of throws. Then she popped off a 38.56m (126'6") on her second attempt to vault her up to second in the flight.
While her third attempt was below her best mark of prelims, Miller was able to stay in second in Flight 1, with Flight 2 yet to go.
Both flights contained 11 jav throwers, and with another from her own flight in front of her, Miller needed her mark to hold up better than at least four competitors from the second flight.
Miller was sitting in ninth, a position to qualify for the event final, but a pair of throwers on their final throws bumped her down to 11th.
Though a tough finish, Miller had an outstanding season for the Blue Jays. She moved her way up to fourth on the all-time list, won the gold at the Landmark Outdoor Championships for a second straight year, and took fifth at the AARTFC Outdoor Championships. She qualified 13th in NCAA Division III and was able to finish two spots better.
Her 11th-place finish is the second-best by a javelin thrower in women's program history and best since Amanda Porter was 10th in 2017.
