Landmark Men's Outdoor Track & Field Senior Scholar Athlete 052522

Schaaf voted Landmark Men's Outdoor Track & Field Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. -- Senior Christian Schaaf is the fifth different Elizabethtown College men's track and field athlete to earn the Landmark Senior Scholar Athlete designation after being named the conference's selection for outdoor track and field. Schaaf, who was also the Men's XC Senior Scholar Athlete, gives Etown the sweep after Colin Elliott was named the Men's Indoor Track & Field Senior Scholar Athlete.

Schaaf has been a force at the conference level the past two years for the Blue Jays. He won his second consecutive 10,000 meter crown two weeks ago with a dominating performance on that Saturday night. Schaaf turned around and came back to win the 5,000 meter the next day to make it a pair of gold medals.

Earlier in the season, the Phoenixville, Pa. native took over the 5,000 meter school record from All-American Dave Berdan, who had the record since 2004. Then, at the 126th Penn Relays, Schaaf set both a school and Landmark Conference record in the event with his 14:14.38. That elevated him into the national conversation, and that's where he remained the rest of the season. This past Friday, he was named an official qualifier in the 5k and will compete in the event final on Saturday, May 28.

Schaaf has been named to the conference academic honor roll each season he has been eligible. He's also been a four-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honoree with Elizabethtown and a 2021 USTFCCCA XC All-Academic Individual. Schaaf is also a Dean's List student at Etown with a 3.98 cumulative GPA as a Communications and Graphic Design double major.

He is the first Blue Jays' student-athlete for the cross country and track & field programs to earn the Landmark Senior Scholar Athlete for both sports.
