Oaster takes over 800m record at Swarthmore Final Qualifier

CHESTER, Pa. -- After her 800 meter record was broken last weekend by teammate Marissa Lapinsky at the Landmark Outdoor Championships, sophomore Kelty Oaster reclaimed the school record last night at the Swarthmore Final Qualifier, hosted by Widener University. Oaster was the top Division III finisher in the event. Hallie Weaver had the best finish of the night for the Elizabethtown College women's track & field team.

The women's 800 meter record was one of the longer standing records and prior to last outdoor season (2021), had stood since 2011. In the past year alone, it has been broken now three times between Oaster and Lapinsky and twice in the last 8 days.

Oaster ran 2:10.91 Monday night and finished sixth overall, but was the top finisher among Division III contestants. Her time currently places her 11th in Division III and she becomes only the third athlete in Landmark Conference history to run sub-2:11.00 and the first since Moravian's Carly Donaski in 2018.

Weaver, fresh off her second steeple gold at the Landmark meet, took fourth in the event at Widener. She finished in 11:36.76.

Sydney Detky lowered her 100 meter time to 12.82 and moved from seventh to sixth on the all-time list. Detky placed seventh.

Laura Cardona gave it a go in both hurdle races and ended her night with a personal best in the 400 meter hurdles. Cardona was seventh at 1:06.59 and moved up from third to second all-time. She was sixth in the 100 meter hurdles at 16.89.

The Blue Jays will compete at the AARTFC Outdoor Championships Wednesday, May 18, and Thursday, May 19, at Moravian University.
