Detky impresses in heptathlon, Lapinsky and Miller win events at Messiah Invitational

GRANTHAM, Pa. -- In her first ever heptathlon competition, junior Sydney Detky placed second for the Elizabethtown College women's track & field team over the seven events between Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, Marissa Lapinsky and Erin Miller each won events for the Blue Jays, who were eighth out of 22 teams with 43 points.

Detky showcased her versatility high placement in the high jump (T2nd), 200 (2nd), long jump (3rd), 800m (6th), and javelin (9th). She finished in the top half of the field in five of the seven events scored to total 3,360 points, which is the fourth-most in Elizabethtown program history.

Also competing on Thursday were the discus throwers. Trinity Soto led a trio into the finals where she finished second at 37.44 (122'10"). DaniRae Renno was sixth at 31.63m (103'9"), and Mylea Neidig was ninth at 29.47m (96'8").

Lapinsky's run in the 800m was an all-time performance for the senior. She ran 2:17.62 to place first overall with the program's eighth-fastest two-lap time outdoors. Miller won the javelin with her throw of 37.35m (122'6").

Madison Webber, Bridget Kennedy, and Amanda Kauffman were all in the top ten for Etown in the 5,000m. Webber took fourth in 19:20.33, Kennedy was next, in fifth, at 19:27.75, and Kauffman placed ninth in 19:54.48.

Brooklyne Wiley was sixth in the 3,000m steeplechase at 12:57.07.

The Blue Jays will compete at next weekend's Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, Pa. on Friday, April 15, and Saturday, April 16.
