Cardona sets two new personal bests in hurdles at Gettysburg for women's track & field

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- Kelty Oaster and Sydney Detky, along with the 4x400m relay, were second-place finishers to lead the Elizabethtown College women's track & field team at Gettysburg's Mason-Dixon Invitational on Saturday. Laura Cardona ran two new personal bests in the hurdle races while Erin Miller, Mylea Neidig, and Trinity Soto also had all-time performances for the Blue Jays.

Oaster was one of three for Elizabethtown to place in the 800m. The sophomore was the runner-up in 2:17.42. Victoria Wert took fourth and Axel Georgieff was ninth.

Detky cleared 1.52m in the high jump to also finish as the runner-up.

Cardona ran 17.42 in the 100m hurdles to placed fifth overall with the program's eighth-fastest time. Later in the meet, she ran 1:07.73 in the 400m hurdles to become only the fifth female hurdler to break 1:10.00. Her time moved her from fifth to third all-time. She was third overall in the event for the Jays.

In the throws, Soto took third in the discus at 35.82m and sixth in the hammer. Her mark of 36.99m in the hammer was the eighth-best all-time. Abigail Carbaugh placed 10th in the hammer. Also in the discus, DaniRae Renno was fourth and Neidig was ninth. Neidig's throw of 10.73m in the shot put was good for fourth with the sixth-farthest throw in program history. Maura Bradney took eighth in the shot.

Miller set a new PR in the javelin with her throw of 39.52m to improved her fourth-place standing on the school's all-time list. She was third in the competition. Sarah Habiballah was seventh and Bradney placed 10th.

Habiballah was ninth in the triple jump while Abigail Buffington took fifth. Devin Riss finished in a tie for seventh in the pole vault at 2.75m.

Katie Guelcher was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 13:22.33. Amanda Kauffman finished seventh in the 5,000m at 19:38.37 and Kylie Evoy was ninth in the 1500m in 5:14.33.

The 4x400m relay took second in 4:12.54 while the 4x100m relay was sixth in 53.22.

Elizabethtown will host the Blue Jay Tune Up next weekend, starting on Friday, April 29.
