Phillips throws a gem to help softball split against Rose-Hulman, Calvin

CLERMONT, Fla. -- Paige Phillips threw the first one-hitter of her career on Wednesday and helped the Elizabethtown College softball team split with Rose-Hulman and Calvin to improve to 4-2 on the season. Phillips was also 4-for-7 at the plate over the two games with two RBIs for the Blue Jays.

Game 1: Rose-Hulman 8, Elizabethtown 1
The Fighting Engineers wasted no time in getting out to a lead in the first game of the day for both teams. By the fourth, it was 8-0 for Rose-Hulman (4-1).

Cierra Kunkle came in and threw the final six innings. She settled in and didn't allow another run after the third and struck out two.

Phillips drilled a stand-up triple down the right field line to score Kristen Aydelotte from first to break up the shutout. Phillips had two of the Jays' three hits in the game.

Game 2: Elizabethtown 6, Calvin 0
Phillips started game two for the Blue Jays and was locked in from the first pitch. She had a no-hitter going through three innings until Calvin (3-3) was able to break it up in the fourth. It would be the only hit the Knights would get off Phillips.

Elizabethtown also made several nice defensive plays in the infield to help their pitcher, led by shortstop Courtney Fitzsimons.

Kadyn Crisswell knocked in her fifth and sixth RBIs of the season in the third to give Etown a 2-0 lead.

Phillips, Kaitlyn Witmer, and Lisa Scanlon each had RBIs in the fifth inning to help the Blue Jays extend their advantage to 5-0. Amelia Lark's sac fly RBI in the sixth made it 6-0, which was plenty enough for Phillips, who cruised through the final few innings.

Phillips moved to 3-0, tied for first in the Landmark. She also leads the conference, currently, with her eight RBIs and sits fourth in ERA as the senior continues to get the job done at the plate and in the circle for the Blue Jays.

The softball team has Thursday off before playing two more on Friday, March 4.
