Detky excels for women's track & field at Susquehanna Tune Up

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Sydney Detky had another impressive night for the Elizabethtown College women's track & field team at Friday's Susquehanna Tune Up. Detky had a pair of second-place finishes along with a pair of personal bests in the 60m for the Blue Jays. Laura Cardona and Trinity Soto also had Etown Top 10 performances at the meet.

Detky flew in the 60m prelims as she clocked in at 8.31 to qualify for the final. That time moved her into a tie for fifth on Elizabethtown's all-time list. She outdid herself a second time in the meet, going even faster in the final to the tune of 8.24. By the end of the night, Detky moved from sixth to fourth place all-time and wound up second in the 60m. She ran 28.27 to place ninth in the 200m and her clearance of 1.53m in the high jump was good for a second-place tie. Detky also added a third-place finish in the long jump.

Cardona was the fifth-fastest qualifier in the 60m hurdles with an 11.00, which was the sixth-fastest hurdle time in program history. She lowered that to 10.53 in the final, which is now fourth all-time. Cardona ended a place better than her qualifying spot, in fourth.

Soto, who joined the all-time list in the weight throw last month, improved her throw to 11.64m (from 11.16m) and finished fifth in the competition at Susquehanna. The mark took her from tenth to ninth in school history.

Victoria Wert was sixth in the 400m and Brooklyne Wiley placed ninth in the 800m.

Jocelynn Itterly made it two Blue Jays in the top four for Etown. She was fourth in the high jump at 1.48m. Devin Riss tied for fourth in the pole vault by clearing 2.75m.

The women's track & field team will compete for the Landmark Indoor Championship next Saturday, February 26, back at Susquehanna.
