Holland sets record and wins 60m, Baxter, Miller also first-place finishers for men's track & field at F&M

LANCASTER, Pa. -- It was their first and only meet of the 2022-23 indoor season, but the Elizabethtown College men's track & field team was prepared for it at Friday's Diplomat Open hosted at Franklin & Marshall. Myron Holland Jr. won the 60m and set a new school record while Brandon Baxter and Logan Miller also won events for the Blue Jays.

Holland was sitting just over 7.0 seconds in the 60-meters coming into this season. He wasted no time becoming only the second sprinter ever to go below 7.0 in breaking Ean Mann's school record of 6.96 with a 6.95 of his own Friday evening. Holland also won the event with his time. Jalen Belgrave tied for 10th at 7.34.

Baxter cruised in his 1,000-meter race and finished with the program's fifth-fastest time of 2:37.32 to take the top spot in the event. Marc Ramson finished fifth in 2:45.75.

Miller was one of three vaulters to place for Etown. His winning vault of 4.24m (13'11") puts him sixth on the school's all-time list. Jordan Figueroa was second at 4.09m and Keagan Kinney took eighth in his first collegiate meet.

The Blue Jays also had three place-finishers in the 5,000-meters and 200-meters. In the 5k to start the meet, Christian Gingrich, Devon Soto, and Matt Fick were a part of the lead group for much of the race. Gingrich wound up third in 15:37.50. Soto was fifth at 15:47.59 and Fick was right behind him in sixth at 15:48.29.

Evan Schwab led the trio of Jays in the 200m. He was the runner-up at 23.34. Holland was fourth at 23.63 and Belgrave placed eighth in 24.07.

Also on the track, Daniel Myers was fifth in the mile, Andrew Reice took sixth in the 400m, Nick Harder and Collin Wolf were seventh and ninth, respectively, in the 800m, while the 4x400m relay ended fifth.

Elsewhere in the field, Lucas Maggipinto celebrated a personal best in the high jump after clearing 1.90m (6'2-3/4") to take second. He moves himself from a tie for ninth to fifth all-time. Ethan Vallone tied for seventh in the high jump at 1.75m.

The men's track & field team will pick up after winter break on January 21 at the Cardinal Track & Field Classic.
