Wrestling retains their belt after beating Johns Hopkins

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- With the championship belt on the line, the Elizabethtown College wrestling team retained it for another year as they beat Johns Hopkins Friday night at the Bowers Center, 32-11. Etown won seven of the ten weight classes including two by pinfall.

Ethan Liptzin got Elizabethtown off on the right note with his major decision, 16-3, to make it 4-0 right away. Johns Hopkins got those four points right back at 133 as they evened the match at 4-4.

Zach Rupp started off a four-match win streak on the night for Etown with his pin just 1:28 into the first. It was Rupp's second victory by fall this season and fastest pin of the year.

Shane Strausser's bout at 149 came right down to the end as he claimed four near-fall points to win 4-0 over Colin Powell. That increased the lead from 10-4 to 13-4 heading into Dorian Gonzalez's match at 157.

Gonzalez earned his second victory by tech fall this season, getting the riding point at the end to make it 18-3 over Jared Osborne. Brian Schneider followed up with his fifth win by pin this season, the second-most on the team. Schneider got 23 seconds into the second period before getting the fall. He improved to a team-best 12-1 on the year.

After a major decision and four points at 174 for Johns Hopkins, Will Davis battled to a 5-2 decision over Grant Walnoha at 184, tying Schneider for the team lead with 12 victories.

John Libby posted an 8-5 decision at 197 before Dylan Waller dominated the final match of the night. Waller went to work right away on Will Shiber and never looked back. The junior got his first tech fall victory of the season at 3:55, 15-0.

The wrestling team will have most of its roster in action tomorrow at the Bowers Center as they host the Blue Jay Classic, beginning at 10 a.m.
