Wrestling alums take part in L-L Legends event

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- A number of Elizabethtown College wrestling alumni and those associated with the program took part in the L-L Legends event at Manheim Township this past Saturday. The event is a fundraiser for the L-L Coaches Scholarship for Books.

18 former wrestlers from the league took part, split between two teams that went head-to-head. Not only former legendary L-L athletes, but a pair of Hall of Fame coaches as well in Solanco's John Little and former Hempfield coach and 1980 Elizabethtown grad and wrestling All-American, Jude Bervinchak.

Mike Lammer, a 2016 graduate, and Etown assistant coach Thomas Haines were on Team Little, while Austin Jones '21, Ian Stoeckl, Woodie Herrmann, and Ben Swarr, a Fellowship of Christian Athletes Director that works with the Blue Jays, were rostered on Team Bervinchak.

Jones, an L-L champion for Ephrata, won the opening match over three-time L-L champ and District Three champion Connor Sheehan. Herrmann, a Hempfield grad, lost his bout to former Warwick team member Adam Chapis in Saturday's third match.

Swarr, a two-time NCAA finalist and national champion in 2016, wrestled Dylan Killian of Annville-Cleona.

Lammer defeated Stoeckl, who wrestled for head coach Eric Walker for a year at Elizabethtown. Lammer was a four-year member of the Jays' wrestling squad.

Haines and Manheim Central's Jordan Enck were the final match of the event. Haines was four-time state and L-L champion and three-time District Three titleist for Solanco. Enck got the W to close out the day.
