TOWSON, Md. -- Saturday's Landmark Conference Cross Country Championship race came down to a single point between the Elizabethtown College women's cross country team. Unfortunately for the Blue Jays, it was the Royals that would claim the team title, 42-43.
Kelty Oaster and
Bridget Kennedy were All-Landmark First Team honorees as Etown was the runner-up with 43 points.
Over the final 2,000 meters of the race, Oaster moved her way up four places to secure third for Elizabethtown. Her final time was 23:15.2. Kennedy was right there at the line with her junior teammate as she placed fourth in 23:15.5.
Madison Webber took eighth in 23:37.8.
Megan Lysek-Hagy worked her way up four spots and after crossing the 4k mark in 17th, she finished 13th in 23:57.6.Â
Melissa Fitzgibbon was the final Blue Jay to finish. She was 15th in 24:08.6.
Scranton's Jessica Hoffmann was the individual champion. The Royals were also seventh, ninth, 11th, and 14th to earn the team title by a point over Etown.
The women's cross country team will compete at the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional on Saturday, November 12.
