Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Blue Jays, Gophers finish with scoreless draw

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Three points was preferable, but the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team still managed a point out of Saturday's game at Ira R. Herr Field against Goucher. Neither side could score on the other as the Blue Jays and Gophers finished in a scoreless draw. Etown remains in play for the final playoff spot in the Landmark Conference with one league game to go.

Elizabethtown (5-8-2, 1-3-2 Landmark) had the edge in shots registered six in the opening 21 minutes before Goucher recorded their first of the game. The Gophers were able to bottle up the Jays' attack, blocking three of the first six attempts. Marissa Spacht made two saves in the first 20 minutes for Goucher (7-5-3, 0-3-3 Landmark).

Etown had a late chance in the first half, but Ashley Rosati's shot slid just wide of the left post.

The Blue Jays had the Gophers pinned in their own half for most of the second half, though Goucher came on over the final 15 minutes as they pushed for the go-ahead goal.

Belle St. Jean gave it a go from outside the 18 in the 77th minute. Trinity Soto made one of her two second-half saves on the attempt. Later Soto snagged a shot by Taty Jimenez in the 85th minute.

Maddie McWhinney was close to giving the Jays the lead with under 20 seconds left as her shot was a lofted ball toward the top corner, but Spacht came down with it as time wound down under 15 seconds.

The women's soccer team will need to beat Catholic next Saturday, October 29, and receive some help to earn the final playoff spot in the Landmark. Game time is set for 4 p.m. from Washington, D.C.
