Men's soccer settles for tie at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's soccer team had a 1-0 lead at halftime, but Moravian scored later in the second half as the Blue Jays and Greyhounds settled for a 1-1 tie Wednesday night. Etown's unbeaten streak now moves to eight games as they also stay undefeated in Landmark play at 3-0-2. Mehluko Letsoalo provided the goal for the Jays.

It was a flying start for Elizabethtown (8-4-3, 3-0-2 Landmark) as they opened up the scoring in the sixth minute thanks to Letsoalo. Though, the play began at the other end of the field.

Moravian (4-6-4, 2-0-3 Landmark) had worked the ball down the right side and as a cross was about to go in, it was blocked by Thomas Smith and the carom went to Gavin Domsohn trailing the play. He collected the ball near the top of the 18 and carried it out as the Jays transitioned back toward the attacking third. A few passes up the left side led to Jake Groh playing Jeffrey Bennett down toward the end line. Bennett lobbed in a cross into the six-yard box, but the defender was able to beat Letsoalo to the ball. The clearance attempt wasn't enough to escape the box as it landed in the path of Groh. The junior hit a one-touch effort that he didn't fully catch, but the direction took it near Letsoalo, who stuck a foot out and redirected it inside the right post for his second of the season.

Meanwhile, the defense held its own, only allowing two shots in the first half and one on goal, which reigning Defensive Athlete of the Week Kelvin Del Cid saved. Etown led 1-0 at the half.

Still ahead 1-0 going into the final 20 minutes, a Greyhound free kick led to a goal. The ball was played into the box from near midfield and after it bounced around for a few seconds, David Steinbach was able to tuck the ball inside the left post to tie the game in the 72nd minute.

Groh had a chance late for Elizabethtown, but goalie Andrew Remias made the most important save of the night for his team to keep it a 1-1 game with only five and a half minutes remaining.

Elizabethtown will host its Senior Day on Saturday, October 22, at 1 p.m. prior to its game against Goucher.
