ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- A night after needing a win at heavyweight to get the dual victory, the Elizabethtown College wrestling team's match with Penn State Mont Alto Saturday night was a little less stressful for the Blue Jays. Etown routed the Nittany Lions 48-5 on Alumni Night at Thompson Gymnasium.
Jakob Latham got his second consecutive collegiate win as he started the night for Elizabethtown (7-4) in an exhibition prior to the dual. Latham earned his first career win last night at Hopkins.
Penn State Mont Alto had forfeits at 125 and 133, so the Jays led 12-0 right away.
At 141,
Zach Rupp earned a tech fall victory over Matt Deysher to keep the momentum rolling as the score increased to 17-0.
Shane Strausser then pinned Connor McCabe at 2:35.
Gunner Gehr made it a second straight pinfall victory for Etown at 157, as both wrestlers got the the prior to the end of the first period.
Luke Moynihan extended the lead to 32-0 with an 8-3 decision over Bryce Palamar at 165.
Luke Lardarello was able to spoil the shutout at 174 with a tech fall to get the Lions five points, 32-5.
Hunter Beaudet finished his night with an 11-3 major decision over Nick Kostyak at 184 and
Tyler Phenegar pinned Kyle Davis nine seconds into the second period.
Dylan Waller wasn't needed for the Blue Jays this time as Penn State Mont Alto also forfeited the heavyweight match and Etown ended with the 48-5 win, its second straight dual victory.
The wrestling team will compete at the Peter Willson Invitational at Wheaton, Ill. next Friday and Saturday.
