ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- It was a close call, but the Elizabethtown College men's cross country team beat the alumni squad on Saturday at the Solar Array Course. The current crop of Blue Jays edged their predecessors, narrowly, 27-30.
Christian Schaaf was the top finisher for Etown. Samuel Gerstenbacher and Christopher Myers went 1-2 for the alumni team.
Gerstenbacher, the former cross country all-american for Etown, pulled away from the pack over the course of the 4,500 meters and cruised to an easy win in 13:31. Myers was also under 14 minutes, taking second in 13:58. Schaaf was third overall and the first finisher for the Blue Jays at 14:14.
Nick Garrett wasn't much off Schaaf's pace, registering a 14:20 to take fourth.
Adam Wolfe was fifth,
Daniel Myers seventh, and
Brandon Baxter eighth for the Jays. Alums Eric Reichert and Adam Harriger were also in the top ten at sixth and ninth, respectively.
The men's cross country team will compete at Haverford's Main Line Invitational on Friday, September 17, at 5:30 p.m.
