ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Elizabethtown College women's volleyball team's season came to a close in the Landmark Conference semifinals, falling to Scranton, 3-1, Wednesday evening.
With the loss, the Blue Jays finish the season 21-8 while the Royals 25-6 overall.
Junior
Bryanna Miller finished the night with a match-high 17 kills and nine digs. Junior
Sarah Hanks registered a double-double with 35 assists and 11 digs. Sophomore
Kambrie Hepler tallied a team-high 19 digs and senior
Shelly Yohe recorded eight kills, nine digs, and three block assists.
Etown started the match off strong, running out to a 7-1 lead after a kill from sophomore Giana Krinock.
The Blue Jays continued to attack, pushing its advantage to eight (14-6) highlighted by a kill from sophomore
Katie Scaggs and an ace from Krinock over the final three points.
Scranton closed within six (19-13) but no closer as Etown took the opening set in dominating fashion, 25-16.
The Royals responded in the second set, creeping out to a 12-9 lead after a kill from Carah Vitkus.
Elizabethtown closed within one at 12-11 but the Royals stole back the momentum, going on a 6-1 run to move ahead 17-11.
Down 21-15, the Blue Jays continued to battle, rattling off three straight points to cut the deficit to three (21-18) after a kill from Yohe.
Scranton, however, scored four of the final five points to take the third set 25-19.
The Blue Jays scooted out to a 8-5 lead in the third set before the Royals rattled off four consecutive points to move ahead 9-8.
Elizabethtown tied the match at nine, 11, and then again at 13, but Scranton began to open up the score, moving ahead by six at 22-16.
The Blue Jays made one last run, closing within three at 24-21, but the Royals found the final point to move ahead 25-21.
In the fourth and final set, Etown once again took an early lead as Krinock smashed home a kill for the 7-6 advantage.
Scranton responded again through, scoring five straight to go up 11-7.
The Royals would ride the momentum of that run to take the fourth set 25-12 and the match 3-1.
