MADISON, N.J. - The Elizabethtown College women's volleyball team locked up it second consecutive trip to the Landmark Conference Tournament, topping Drew, 3-0, Wednesday night.
With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 21-6 overall and remain undefeated in league play at 5-0. Etown is riding a seven match winning streak and have won 21 of its last 23 sets.
Sophomore
Katie Scaggs hit .458 and matched a career-high with 13 kills. Senior
Shelly Yohe registered her fifth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 18 digs while junior
Bryanna Miller finished with a double-double as well, tallying 11 kills and 18 digs. Sophomores
Kambrie Hepler and Giana Krinock recorded 18 digs apiece and junior
Sarah Hanks had 38 assists and 10 digs.
Holding a 13-10 lead in the opening set, the Blue Jays rattled off four consecutive points, capped of by two consecutive kills from Miller, giving Etown the 17-10 lead.
Drew punched back and managed to tie the match at 19 and then again at 20 before Etown snated the momentum right back. Starting with a kill from Yohe, the Blue Jays finished the opening frame on a 5-0 run for the 25-20 win and the early 1-0 lead.
Etown carried its momentum into the next set, running out to a 7-0 advantage in the second. Yohe had two kills over this stretch and Krinock had one.
The Blue Jays road the early surge, holding at least a five point lead the rest of the way and taking the second set, 25-18.
In the third and final set, Etown quickly ran out to another lead after a kill by Scaggs made the score 11-5.
The Rangers closer within three at 14-11 and then again at 15-12 before the Blue Jays used a three point spurt to push its advantage back to six (18-12).
Drew made one final push to cut Etown's lead to one (20-19), but the Blue Jays quelled the rally once again scoring the final five points of the set for the 25-19 win and the 3-0 sweep.
Elizabethtown returns home to wrap up the regular season on Saturday to host Susquehanna and #9 Juniata. The Blue Jays take on the River Hawks at 11 a.m. followed by Juniata at 6:30 p.m.
