ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Elizabethtown College men's soccer team fell to Muhlenberg, 1-0, Wednesday in non-conference action.
With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 8-3-1 overall, while the Mules improve to 6-5-1.
Scoring the lone goal for Muhlenberg was junior Taylan Akdag.
Tied 0-0 in the first, Muhlenberg found the game winner with just under 19 minutes to play in the half as Akdag stepped up over a free kick from 30 yards out. The junior hit a curling shot to the upper right corner, just past the out stretched hands of a diving junior goalkeeper
Kelvin Del Cid for his second goal of the year.
Etown turned up the pressure in the second half, searching for the equalizer. The Blue Jays best opportunity came in the 74th minute as junior
Mehluko Letsoalo slipped a pass to freshman
Hayden Oldham inside the Muhlenberg penalty box. Oldham took a touch and fired a shot on goal, but sophomore goalkeeper Zack Matik sprawled out for the save, denying Etown.
The Blue Jays managed seven shots in the second half forcing three saves from Matik but couldn't find the tying goal, falling to the Mules 1-0.
Del Cid (6-2-1) made three saves in the loss.Â
Matik secured his second shutout of the season, finishing the night with three saves.
Elizabethtown returns to Ira R. Herr Field for Homecoming weekend. The Blue Jays are set to host Susquehanna in Landmark Conference action on Saturday, October 12. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
