E-town falls to Concordia-Moorhead, beats St. Joseph's (Brooklyn)

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Elizabethtown College softball team was back on the diamond for another pair of games at Legends Way Ballfields on Sunday. The Blue Jays fell to Concordia-Moorhead in game one before beating St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) in game two.

Game 1: Concordia-Moorhead 11, Elizabethtown 0 (F/5)
Concordia (Minn.) (4-1) jumped out ahead early with four runs in the first inning. The Cobbers then added two more in the second to go up 6-0.

Ashley Mistichelli led off the bottom of the second with a double to right field, but was left stranded as Megan Gavin struck out the side. The sophomore was on base twice in the game, also drawing a walk.

Grace Hussey and Kaitlyn Witmer also had hits in the game for the Blue Jays.

Concordia scored five more runs in the fourth as Gavin shut the door on E-town in the final two innings to end it in five.

Game 2: Elizabethtown 12, St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 4 (F/5)
Elizabethtown (2-2) fell behind by a run in the first and trailed 1-0 into the third, but that's where the Blue Jays took off.

Courtney Fitzsimons launched a double off the left field fence. Vanessa Boop walked to put a pair of runners on for Brinley Schmidt, who singled to left to bring home Fitzsimons from second and advanced to second on the throw.

Then, with runners at second and third, Hussey drew a second base on balls in the inning to load the bases. Witmer stepped into the box and laced a double down the left field line to score two more runs as Elizabethtown now led 3-0.

Lindsey Fasolo followed suit with another two RBI double, which forced the Bears into a pitching change. E-town led 5-1 their half of the third.

St. Joseph's responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to pull within a run, but the Blue Jays answered right back with another five-run inning.

Fasolo singled in a run before scoring on a fielding error in the outfield. Hussey also scored on the play after she singled to short with one out. Mistichelli and Amelia Lark both sent doubles down the left field line. Paige Phillips and Mistichelli each scored a run as the Jays went up 10-4.

As Caputo held the Bears scoreless, her offense supplied another two runs in the top of the fifth. Phillips singled to center to score Hussey and Mistichelli had her second RBI of the game with a base knock to right center.

The freshman threw all five innings for Elizabethtown to move to 2-0 on the season.

The softball team will have a day off on Monday before another set of two games on Tuesday, March 3.
