Men's cross country wins Blue Jay Alumni Challenge

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Samuel Gerstenbacher won the Blue Jay Alumni Challenge for the Elizabethtown College men's cross country team Saturday morning at the Solar Array Course. E-town placed eight in the top ten, including the first four runners to cross to beat the alumni, 16-47.

Gerstenbacher, the reigning Landmark MXC Athlete of the Week, cruised to his first race win of the season and was the lone runner to finish sub 16 minutes. Gerstenbacher ran 15:48.38.

Liam Coverdale and Christopher Myers were next. Coverdale was the runner-up in 16:11.00 and Myers came in just after him in a final time of 16:18.21.

Blake Samsel took fourth for the Blue Jays, posting a time of 16:49.67. Adam Wolfe rounded out the scorers for the Jays, taking sixth place in 16:53.96.

Adam Harriger led the alumni team with a fifth-place run. He finished in 16:50.07.

Elizabethtown will host a short course invitational on Friday, September 20, at 5:45 p.m. at Union Canal Tunnel Park in Annville, Pa.
