Scranton spoils senior day with sweep over softball

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- In a doubleheader with Landmark Conference playoff implications, Scranton clinched the final available spot in next weekend's tournament with a sweep over the Elizabethtown College softball team on Senior Day. Lindsey Fasolo, Brinley Schmidt, and Ashley Mistichelli each homered for the Blue Jays in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Scranton 10, Elizabethtown 3
- Scranton (28-12, 7-5 Landmark) jumped ahead with a run in each of the first two innings and then doubled it with two more in the third to go up 4-0.
- An error allowed Courtney Fitzsimons and Amber Sergas to score in the bottom half of the third as Elizabethtown (16-22, 5-7 Landmark) got back within 4-2.
- Fasolo's RBI single to right center made it 4-3 as Taylor Herman scored.
- The Royals posted a three-run fourth inning to increase the lead back to four, 7-3.
- Scranton extended it to 8-3 in the fifth and 10-3 in the sixth before closing out the game in the seventh.
- Herman, Fasolo, and Schmidt had the hits for E-town in game one.

Game 2: Scranton 10, Elizabethtown 4
- Jennifer Sweeney doubled in two runs for SCR in the top of the first and Heather Alich added an RBI single to make it 3-0 after one inning.
- Fasolo homered to left on a 1-1 pitch to cut it to 3-1. Schmidt made it back-to-back homers for the Blue Jays, sending a shot over the left field fence on the second pitch she saw in the second.
- The Royals answered with three runs in the third inning to go up 6-2.
- Kady Johnson scored on an error to cut the deficit in half, 6-3, in the third.
- With Scranton ahead 10-3 in the sixth, Mistichelli smacked her second home run of the season down the left field line to make it 10-4.
- Amber Sergas closed out the game with one final appearance in the circle and did not allow a hit as she sat the side down in order.
- Fasolo and Schmidt had two hits apiece for the Jays.
