Mahoney, Gerstenbacher named Landmark Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. -- Tom Mahoney won his eighth game of the season for the Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team this past week and Samuel Gerstenbacher won the 5,000m at the York College Twilight Meet for the Elizabethtown College men's track and field team. Mahoney was named the Landmark's MLAX Defensive Athlete of the Week and Gerstenbacher earned the Landmark Men's Track Athlete of the Week. The conference announced its weekly award winners Monday afternoon.

MEN'S LACROSSE
Elizabethtown needed a win last Thursday at Scranton to pull into a first-place tie with the Royals and Susquehanna. Previously unbeaten in the conference, Scranton's 4-0 record was put to the test as the Blue Jays held the Royals to their lowest goal output of the season.

Mahoney stopped nine shots in goal for E-town and only allowed three goals in the Jays' 9-3 win. A win Saturday at home on Senior Day gives Elizabethtown the top overall seed.

MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
The Blue Jays competed last Wednesday at the York (Pa.) College Twilight Meet. Gerstenbacher raced in the 5,000m and won in 14:54.79, the fastest time this season by any Landmark Conference runner.

The junior also became only the seventh male all-time to run the outdoor 5k in under 15 minutes. Gerstenbacher now ranks sixth in program history.

Elizabethtown hosts the Blue Jay Tune Up on Saturday, April 27.
