Softball swept by Ursinus

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College softball team had a pair of leads in game one and played from behind in game two as Ursinus won both over the Blue Jays at The Nest on Thursday. The Bears scored six runs late to win game one, 8-3, and led of their 6-3 game two win.

Game 1: Ursinus 8, Elizabethtown 3
Kaitlyn Witmer provided the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to left field, deep enough to allow Lindsey Fasolo to score from third. Elizabethtown (6-14) led 1-0 after two innings.

Ursinus (9-7) jumped ahead with two in the third inning and their lead remained at 2-1 until the fifth.

Brinley Schmidt lobbed a base hit to center field to score two runs. Taylor Herman and Courtney Fitzsimons crossed home plate on the play as the Jays retook the lead, 3-2.

The Bears came right back and produced four runs in the sixth as they now had E-town doubled up at 6-3. A two-run single in the top of the seventh helped aid the cause for Ursinus, who now led 8-3. Jennifer Hammons finished off her complete game with the final three outs.

Game 2: Ursinus 6, Elizabethtown 3
It was Ursinus to scored first in game two as Megan Hasulak doubled to right center to plate two runs in the third inning. The Bears added three more in the fourth to go ahead 5-0.

Paige Phillips came in to pitch the final 3.1 innings of game two and limited UC to one run the rest of the game.

Madeline Hamilton alertly scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 5-1. Schmidt added a sac fly RBI to make it 5-2.

Down 6-2 in the sixth, Catherine Amos recorded her first career RBI with a base knock to left to score Christina Dark. Amos entered as a pinch runner in the fifth after Ashley Mistichelli's single.

Kayla McTamney threw a complete game for the Bears allowing just the three runs, two earned.

Elizabethtown is at Lebanon Valley on Saturday, March 30, for a non-conference doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m.
