Women's soccer drops Landmark semifinal to Scranton

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Hosting their first Landmark semifinal since 2014, the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team went toe-to-toe with Scranton at Ira R. Herr Field on Wednesday. Though the Blue Jays held a second-half lead, the Royals came back with a pair of goals and held off E-town to advance to Saturday's Landmark Conference Championship with a 3-2 win. Lydia Lawson recorded both of the goals for Elizabethtown.

Scranton (10-5-3) was off to the ideal start as Teresa Hegarty scored 43 seconds into the semifinal.

Elizabethtown (11-5-1) settled into the game and in the 30th minute, Lawson pulled the Blue Jays level with a header in close to goal. Gabi Brown's attempt went off the crossbar and the ball landed right on the head of the senior forward, who recorded her 21st of the season to make it 1-1.

Early in the second half, Trinity Soto hauled in a corner kick off her line, got the ball out quickly, and it ended up on the foot of Lawson on the counter. Leigh Ungerleider slid the ball over to No. 19, who picked her head up to see the goalie off her line and lobbed an arcing shot perfectly placed into the far-side netting to give E-town a 2-1 lead in the 48th minute.

The Royals did not waste any time pulling back the goal as Stephanie Lowrey struck for her fifth of the year in the 52nd minute. Five minutes later, it was a 3-2 Scranton lead thanks to Hegarty's second of the night.

Alli Lasky dribbled her way in on goal in the 72nd minute as she tried to go low on goalie Amanda Steinberg, but the sophomore keeper made the kick save.

The Jays had a late corner that Lawson got her head to, but Lauren Holden was able to save it off the line. It would prove to be E-town's last chance at a game-tying goal as the Royals held off Elizabethtown to move on to the championship.

Soto had four saves in the game for the Blue Jays while Steinberg made one.
