Gerstenbacher sets new PR for Blue Jays at Inter-Regional Border Battle

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- Samuel Gerstenbacher continues to improve race-to-race and Saturday's effort at Rowan's Inter-Regional Border Battle was no different for the senior. Gerstenbacher was eighth overall for his fifth straight top ten finish this season and also set a new 8,000-meter personal best for E-town in the race.

After running the fifth-fastest time ever recorded by a runner in the Landmark Conference in his last race at Lehigh two weeks ago, Gerstenbacher improved his 8k time and dropped another chunk off it down to 24:29.92. It also moved him from fifth to second all-time at the 8,000-meter distance, trailing only Moravian's Dillon Farrell's time of 24:24.90 set on November 22, 2014.

Liam Coverdale came with a few seconds on the clock of setting a PR of his own Saturday. He finished 55th in 25:30.97. Christopher Myers was next for the Blue Jays, in 72nd, at 25:53.00.

Will Schoener and Colm Smith rounded out the scorers for E-town. Both runners ran their fastest 8k's to set new marks. Schoener crossed in 26:07.13 and Smith finished in 26:17.38.

Unofficially, Elizabethtown was ninth out of 29 teams with 300 points. There were 256 runners in the men's 8,000-meter race.

The men's cross country will get ready to defend their Landmark Conference title. Their championship defense takes place on Saturday, November 2. This year's event is being hosted by The Catholic University of America.
