Falcons Top Blue Jays in Non-Conference Action

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The women's volleyball fell to Messiah, 3-0, on the road Friday night in non-conference action.
 
With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 21-8 overall while the Falcons improve to 19-6.
 
Freshman Bryanna Miller tallied a double-double, finishing with 11 kills and 16 digs. Junior Aiyana Tietze-Di Toro recorded a match-high 19 digs, while freshman Sarah Hanks had a team-high 16 assists.
  
ELIZABETHTOWN 0, MESSIAH 3 (26-28, 21-25, 14-25)
  • SET ONE: Tied at 10 early in the first set, Elizabethtown pushed ahead with a 5-1 run to take a 15-11 lead. The run was highlighted by kills from freshman Courtney Westman and sophomore Shelly Yohe and a block from senior Elle Shatto and Westman. The Blue Jays continued to hold a four point advantage all the way to 24-20, looking to take the opening set. The Falcons, however, stormed back with an 8-2 rally, stealing the first frame, 28-26.
  • SET TWO: Tied at nine after a kill from Miller, Messiah jumped ahead with a quick 3-0 run for the 12-9 lead. The Blue Jays swung the momentum back in its favor, rattling over four straight points to move back ahead by one, 13-12. The two teams continued to battle, but the Falcons began to distance themselves from Elizabethtown, holding a 24-19 lead. The Blue Jays attempted to snatch the momentum back after back-to-back kills from Miller and sophomore Allison Fischer, but the Falcons managed to find the final point of the set, winning 25-21.
  • SET THREE: After swapping runs early in the third, Messiah pushed ahead for the early 13-8 lead. Elizabethtown managed to stay within four all the way to 15-11 before the Falcons put the match out of reach with a 8-1 rally for the 23-12 advantage. Messiah scored the final two points of the set for the 3-0 victory, taking the third, 25-14.
